I am traveling on business tomorrow so I have to haul ass and get my ducks in a row or else the only parts of this game I'll be watching are the highlights on NESN later this evening.

News flash from pregame: Apparently JD Drew is the most important addition this season, even more so than Matsu.

Youkilis lost 20lbs body fat, gained 10lbs of chin hair but still went 1st to Home on Papi's double like his head was on fire!!!!

[memo to stupe in box seats: let the KC catcher catch the ball, he then tosses it to your blonde bimbo, you are hero for bringing her to game, you get oombah later -- schmoe]

Doesn't look like either of them is going to get through the fifth. They both took about 30 pitches to get through the first inning . . .

Finally, the first inning is over. Not the greatest start for Curt but at least it's just a tied game.

EverettsTheoryOfEvolution
04-02-2007, 09:48 PM
Wow, talk about a rookie mistake. At least he roped that ball.

04-02-2007, 09:49 PM
Pedroia jumped all over that FB. He makes a rookie mistake by testing an MLB caliber arm in LF and gets thrown out by quite a bit. Not sure if Hale told him to dig for two there but I don't completely hate the aggressiveness there. If he gets to second safely, you have the top of the lineup to hopefully bring him in and if he's out, you lead off the next inning with your leadoff hitter.

Schill looks like garbage! I expect we'll get a good look at the bullpen today. I hope it's just Opening Day jitters for Schill.

Yup...I can't wait to read 38Pitches.com tomorrow. Hopefully the offense can pick up the win for the bullpen.

Man, what a time for Curt to pitch like a 40 year old. But, it's only one game. Too bad the Yanks won earlier.

Does it look to anyone else like Coco is not really trying to hit, and is really really hoping the pitcher will just put him on?

Yeah. I little effort would be nice from Mr. Crisp. The offense looks anemic. Hopefully, a Papi HR or something can light a fire under them.

And now the "hat trick" for Lugo...Way to go, Julio!

It was iffy at best but hey, not all the calls can go against you. Hopefully, the 'pen can remind the Royals who they really are.

Nasty 2-2 pitch. Ortiz put up as good an AB you can put up without getting the result you want. These aren't your father's Royals folks. They came to play, have a much improved lineup from last year and Gil Meche looks like he's an Ace. Of course, it's one game and over the course of a season, I fully expect to beat KC more than we lose.

I reserve judgement until after the series.

My take on baseball is, if most teams play a 3-game set, the idea is that you want to win 2 out of 3. You may occasionally sweep at home, and you may occasionally go 1 for 3 on the road, but by and large you take little steps all year and try to win each round.

So if the Sox go on to win the next two in KC, all is good.

It's a long season. All we know is that, unless there's a major 9th-inning rally, the worst they can go is 161-1, LOL.

Yeah, basically everyone just looked sloppy. I guess the good is that they didn't look like they were outplayed talent-wise, they just looked like they were rolling out of bed and not ready to face the day.

They could be this year's Tigers. OK not really but they've got a good young team in Gordon, Shealy, Teahan and how about Tony Pena, Jr? If they get any pitching and Dotel can solve the blown save problem they had last year, they could surprise.

Tough loss today. I've got to face about 500 Yankee fan students tomorrow that know I am a Sox fan. OUCH!!!

I won't lie - I felt good for KC. The way I see it, the fans deserve a good opening day considering what they have had to deal with the past, what, decade. They got to see their Ace shine against the Sox, maybe that will send them off.

In a 162 game season, I know the Sox are still going to be near the top. Once we get a second baseman. Alright, fine, the kid did okay today ... but for some reason I don't like the feeling I get with him ...

They also have DeJesus and Sweeney (if he can stay healthy) who are productive. They are improved form last year but I still see them at the bottom of the division--just not as terrible as in year's past.

He kind of looks like John Olerud minus the fielding helmet and batting titles. Nice job in the opener with two outs and a man on second taking a walk instead of trying to hit the ball. It's only one game. We'll see how he does tonight.

It totally sucked getting beat by the Royals, and then having a day off to stew. I hope the Sox score 29 runs tonight. Is there going to be a new game thread tonight?

Of course, there's a new game thread for every game. Someone else may need to start it though, as 8 o'clock games (5 o'clock here) start at a very inconvenient time for me, to say the least.

EToE, I remember the papers did a story on this Boston sports bar in LA during the '04 ALDS. I don't remember the name. Do you know what I'm talking about? The paper said that a bunch of people that haunt that bar go to the Angels and some A's games en masse. I lived in San Diego from 01-02 and I never got a chance to go up there to catch a Pats or Sox game.

Yeah, Sonny McLean's. I went there once for Pats vs. Jets this past season. It was pretty crowded, and people were saying how it was surprisingly un-busy. It's pretty cool, tho, they do raffles at halftime, and everyone is appropriately rowdy and whatnot. I can't imagine what it must have been like for the '04 playoffs run.
